Potassium Humate
1. Introduction
Potassium humate used for drilling fluid is the product after the potassium hydroxide generates chemical reaction with humic acid which is extracted from decomposed coal. It contains multiple functional groups, mainly including carboxyl, phenol carboxyl and quinonyl. Because the functional group of ortho bi-phenolic group can strongly adsorb with clay, together with strong hydration of carboxyl, the potassium humate not only has the water-loss reducing effect, but also has dilution effect. Meanwhile, due to the introduction of K ion, the characteristics of clay in mudstone and shale nearby the well wall can be changed, resulting in the appearance of better hydration sluggishness. Therefore, Potassium Humate has good anti-collapse effect. Moreover, the existence of anti-high temperature group in Potassium Humate shows a good temperature resistance property.
